TA Book Club - Scripts People Live

Over the last year, a loyal band of enthusiasts have been reading all of Berne’s books and then meeting up to share our reactions and insights from that experience. For some of us it was a return to familiar ground, and for others it was a completely new experience to read Berne’s own words. On every single occasion the discussions were lively, personal and insightful with individual contributions enriching the understanding of the whole group. It is from this experience that TA BOOKCLUB emerged. The last book we read was also Berne’s last book, “What Do You Say After You Say Hello?” in which he laid down possibly the most significant aspect of Transactional Analysis: the formation of Script and its influence on our lives. As a result, it was agreed that the most obvious next book for a bookclub is Steiner’s continuation of this with “Scripts people Live”, a book he wrote almost immediately after helping to make “What Do You Say After You Say Hello?” ready for print. To whet your appetite: Steiner’s book laid out many of the fundamentals behind TA’s understanding of script as well as his highly innovative “Loveless”, “Joyless” and “Mindless” scripts of depressed, addicted or crazy people, respectively. Indeed, in a rather lovely and cyclical way, Berne’s last book referenced Steiner’s innovative work on the script matrix!
