MONTHLY TA BOOK CLUB
Join before 15 July to be part of this closed group.
As part of our commitment to building up and strengthening our TA links across New Zealand, our two co-presidents (Mandy Lacy & Gerry Pyves) are offering a ‘broad church’ low cost monthly zoom gathering to encourage reading and discussing some of the most influential texts and writings in TA.
The Idea
• Meet for two hours one Sunday evening a month
• Read one book a month (see plan below)
• Discuss with fellow students, friends and colleagues
• Share insights and reflections both clinical and theoretical
• Connect with others who are interested in TA in Aotearoa
The Plan
Our plan is to start with a focus on Berne, his life and writings and then branch out into the wider field of TA writers. A group like this also helps us to stretch ourselves and read further and deeper than we might otherwise do. It is so much easier to discipline ourselves to read a book each month if we do it together. We chose a Sunday evening as a commitment that most will be able to make at least once a month.
The primary aim, however, is to create a safe space for connection, sharing insights and discussion. For this reason, the group will be a closed group for the year and the closing date for joining this group is July 15th.
The Investment
The Book Club Membership is for 12 months (regardless of how many sessions you attend) and is a nominal fee of: $75 if you are a member of TAAANZ and $150 if not.
Anyone with an interest in learning more about TA is welcome. All the money goes into the TAAANZ coffers to fund our various activities and costs (such as conferences, newsletters, website maintenance, meetings etc.)
Whilst everyone is welcome to join this group, this group is ideal for developing your confidence in preparing for CTA, TEW and TSTA examinations. Unlike the university system, our unique TA examination system is based as much on your ability to discuss and express your opinions and thoughts verbally in live discussion as it is in writing.
A group like this not only builds your confidence and skill in this, but also provides you with the opportunity to get supportive feedback.
Four additional reasons to join this year’s group:
-
Underpin and strengthen your knowledge of TA’s roots in the writings of Eric Berne.
-
Develop your capacity and confidence for discussing Berne’s ideas and models critically.
-
Practice presenting your ideas and thoughts to a small and safe group
-
Develop and deepen your thinking around different TA ideas.
