Gerry Pyves - Fri 12th Sept
Transactional Analysis, Touch & Trauma - a Psychotactile Odyssey
Service Description
5.00pm-7.00pm Friday 12th Sept GERRY PYVES, TSTA-P, (NZ) THE WORKSHOP: Since its inception in 1957, TA has been one of the leading approaches worldwide to personal transformation and educational and organisational change. With the latest developments in neuroscience and trauma guiding us towards the use of non-verbal, creative and somatic approaches to releasing trauma, it is time to challenge the social and professional phobia towards the use of touch in removing trauma. This subject applies to all four fields of TA (psychotherapy, counselling, educational and organisational TA). In this webinar, Gerry will share his journey from bodyworker to psychotherapist and how his clinical integration of touch with psychotherapy is impacting his clients’ recovery from trauma. FIELDS: all BIO: Gerry is a PBANZ-registered psychotherapist who integrates touch into his work with trauma. He is an international trainer and creator of the innovative bodywork approach called No Hands Massage (now trading as 4-Elements Massage). He has run workshops right across the United States, the United Kingdom and Taiwan - teaching about touch, transformation and the neuroscience of trauma. After working for 40 years as a massage therapist and 30 years (concurrently) as a psychotherapist, authoring 4 books on massage and a trilogy on “The Psychology of Change”, Gerry recently moved back home to New Zealand from the UK and published his latest book: “Touching Trauma, Building Resilience”. This is a memoir describing his 40-year journey discovering the central role of touch in removing trauma from the nervous system (available in audio, print and ebook). He has also authored a peer-reviewed article: “A Psychotactile Approach to Trauma” which challenges the psychotherapy’s profession’s near-phobic aversion to touch. www.gerrypyves.com
